Holiday Bubbles, Part 1

I read an interesting article on The Pour about how people are not drinking as much bubbly this year due to the expense of Champagne and a society-wide depression due to the economy.  My reaction was to create a list of less-expensive but delicious alternatives and I want to share them with you. (Really, that's what kick-started this blog - my "comment" would have been entry-length.)

The following are available at most wine shops and aren't too expensive.  Also, it is good to remember that wine is less-expensive by the case!  Most shops offer good discounts for case purchases, and some, like my local favorite and marketing client, Market Street Wine Shops, offer a case discount on MIXED cases!  Wow!

My recommendations are all Cavas or Sparkling Wines - I don't do Champagne because it is too expensive for me.

Cristalino Cava - available in either brut or a pleasing rose, Cristalino is available EVERYWHERE (even grocery stores) and is only $8.99/bottle. A sweet cava, but dry enough not to be annoying.  The Rose is more fruity, and very nice with a squeeze of lime.

Don Conde Cava -  comparable to the Cristalino, but not as sweet and has smaller bubbles. Also usually $8.99 per bottle.

Segura Viudas Cava - WONDERFUL!  A tad more than the previous two, and worth the extra $2.  Really.  And this may seem unimportant, but this one makes the best gift bubbly as it is a really graceful bottle and label.  This one is currently at Market Street for $11.99 regularly but is on-sale right now for $8.96!

Steininger Sparkling Wines - The Steininger Winery in Austria produces many beautiful wines, and their sparklers are my favorites.  Their Reisling Sekt is the sweeter of the group, and their Gruner Veltliner is more herbal and playful.  Both have lots of teensy bubbles and make any occassion more special with their presence.  These are higher-quality wines and as such have a higher price tag - usually $21-$24 per bottle.  Totally worth it as a treat.

*Update! Market Street Wine Shop also has the Hillinger Secco on sale for $15.99! Marvelous, flavorful, and graced with small, perfect bubbles.  This great wine and the Segura Viudas Cava are the wines of the week and thus are open for TASTING!

Welcome

Welcome to the Social Princess.Com blog!  This is an experiment encouraged by my friends, most of whom will likely regret that they ever suggested the idea to me.

I have no real "plan" for this site...part of it is practice for my business (I own a small marketing company), part of it is just to share some of my ideas with the Universe to see what happens.

I welcome your comments and suggestions, and I beg your patience while I find my way.

Peace,
Andrea
